Injured Chen ruled out for remainder of season
U.S. bronze medalist undergoes surgery on left hip following gala mishap
U.S. bronze medalist Nathan Chen will miss the remainder of the season, including the 2016 World Junior Championships and 2016 World Championships, after undergoing surgery to repair a hip injury he suffered during the Skating Spectacular at the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Figure Skating announced Thursday.
Chen suffered an avulsion injury to his left hip on a jump attempt during the gala exhibition on Sunday, Jan. 24, and underwent surgery at UC San Diego Health on Wednesday. He can return to the ice, with restrictions, in 8-10 weeks.
According to the release, Chen will begin his rehabilitation in San Diego and is tentatively scheduled to continue his rehab at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Chen will be replaced at the world championships by U.S. pewter medalist Grant Hochstein and at the world junior championships by U.S. junior champion Tomoki Hiwatashi .
In addition to finishing third in the U.S. last week, Chen is the 2015 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, the 2014 world junior bronze medalist and a two-time U.S. junior champio
